Patek Philippe Watches - A New Addition To The Ladies' Gondola Collection

By: Robin OBrien

Patek Philippe makes exceptional ladies' watches. The company has recently enlarged its famous Gondolo collection with the addition of the 4949 ladies' watch. Unlike most watches, the diamonds are mounted, not on the tonneau-shaped case, but are found along the bezel beneath the crystal. The flanks of the watch case feature a very beautiful relief.

There are very few watch manufactures that still make all their own components. Moist out-source the watch movement, casing and other components; Patek Philippe makes everything part that goes into its watches. Patek Philippe watches are made by specialists who construct, mill and polish the high- precision dies by hand following numerous time-consuming steps. The result is that even the raw watch cases are characterized by perfectly smooth surfaces.

After the case has been die-formed, it goes through many stages of manual finishing, thus acquiring the unsurpassed Patek Philippe character. The Gondolo case is subjected to grinding and polishing process. The braided relief feature on the Gondolo 4949 is manually sandblasted to give it its unique matte sheen. The case is white gold.

The new Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 4949 ladies' watch indicates the time using two refined white-gold hands. The dial is created in a champagne color; the hour-marker periphery is decorated with a radiant guilloche pattern. Roman numerals - crafted in 18K white gold - are located at 12 and 6 o'clock. The date aperture is positioned at 3 o'clock. The dial is beautifully framed by two rows of diamonds, 13 Top Wesselton stones on every side.

The gems placed along the side of the dial help lift the champagne dial. The diamonds, the dial, the white gold case and the chocolate satin strap merge to form a stunning whole. But it's the detail that transforms this watch. Not only is the braided patter on the edge of the case incredible, the crown is also studded with fourteen Top Wesselton diamonds.

The Gondolo 4949 comes with a caliber E19 C quartz movement and the battery life should last about 2 years. As you would expect, the accuracy of this Gondolo Ref. 4949 ladies' watch is excellent. The in-house crafted battery has been manufactured with the same attention to detail as the components of Patek Philippe top-quality mechanical movements. The movement comprises 80 individual parts, with seven jewels among them.

Together with the date disc, the hour and minute hands are driven by a tiny stepper motor. The crown is used for operating the timepiece. As expected, the halfway position allows instant date adjustments. The outermost battery-saver position may be used for interrupting the power circuit when the timepiece will not be in use for a considerable period of time.

The Patek Philippe Gondolo 4949 watch is a beautiful timepiece. Unfortunately, owning a Patek Philippe watch is beyond the financial means of most. It isn't that the company deliberately wants to keep an exclusive client base of only the rich, rather, Patek Philippe watches are made the old-fashioned way; by hand, and it is this that makes them, not only expensive, but exquisite watches.
